I had a birthday - and this is the fabulous 3-layer homemade cake that my husband made me with frosting that wasn't from a can. We celebrated a few days early so the kiddo could enjoy the festivities and have a little cake with us in the afternoon far away from his bedtime. Even though it was a great cake, he pointed to the rice cakes on the counter and pushed the birthday cake aside. Unfortunately though, no one took a picture of the birthday girl.
We celebrated the Fourth at a local farm turned county park (odd I know) in Fremont. We petted sheep and goats, listened to old-timey music and got to turn the handle on an ice cream churn. Ben was excited by the small free samples of ice cream they were handing out. He took one big bite and said "Is this peach?" Then daddy (who hates peach) turned to Johnathan and said, "You like peaches" as he shoved it in Johnathan's mouth. Turns out, Johnathan likes peach ice cream.
On the fifth day of the excruciating painful heat wave, we had had enough. Ben (who took the day off), Aunt Rachael (who was out here visiting), Johnathan and I packed up and headed for Santa Cruz to play at the beach. Johnathan still loved it and actually played in the sand more than in NC. But in his "I can do it myself" mentality, he decided he would dump the bucket over to make a sand castle like he had seen daddy do.....didn't quite turn out the same way.
