The kid woke up on the wrong side of the crib this morning. He'd been cranky all day. Nothing horrible but just one of those needy, whiny days that we all have from time to time....until dinner.
Since he demands dinner at 5 pm every night, we can't eat dinner together during the week but always eat together on weekends. Tonight, he was offered a few of his favorites and a few of our new things. He ate a reasonable dinner and asked to get out of the highchair to go play, which is fine. He went into the den, played for 5 minutes and came back and threw himself at the high chair screaming his head off. He wanted more but just had to scream a few things out first.
And he screamed for 35 minutes. We couldn't hold him. He didn't want a paci. He just wanted to fling his arms, kick his feet and at one point, throw himself on the ground - a good old fashioned tantrum. When he started slowing down, we finally got him to admit he wanted more to eat. Ben and I agree not to give him anything "good and fun". He gets dinner food only which he just didn't want. Finally, since he was refusing all dinner food and seeing another tantrum coming on, I grabbed a container of pureed peas and that apparently was what he wanted.
Seriously, my kid threw a tantrum for peas. A vegetable.
