Thanksgiving

Good news! All of our smoke alarms are in excellent working order. I tested them all as I cooked my first Thanksgiving turkey. Johnathan now runs to the smoke detector and asks for more beep beep. He thought all the noise was hilarious. Despite a smokey house, the turkey came out excellent - moist and juicy.

Since the past few Thanksgivings haven't been the greatest at the house (one was a heat-n-eat turkey breast and tater tots the year I was pregnant), Ben was looking forward to a traditional meal. He piled his plate high and sat down. Before he could take his first bite....Johnathan reaches for his sippy which is just a little out of reach and a little too close to Ben's full glass of water. As if it were slow motion....Ben's plate is now swimming in water.

Unfortunately for Johnathan he was less than thrilled with the concept of Thanksgiving though he was excited about the dessert part - he licked all the whipped cream off of the piece of apple pie. Didn't eat the pie - just the whipped cream.

The next day, we drove up to the Santa Cruz mountains to take a holiday train ride. An old steam logging train that goes up the mountain where Santa greets you with candy canes and trail walk through decorated Christmas trees and hot cider. Unfortunately it was billed as being 1 hour roundtrip including a 10 minute walk. It took 2 hours and a lot of stopping. There's a big difference in the sitting ability of an 18 month old for 1 hour or for 2.
