Due to the massive amount of sickness that invaded the house in April, we had to postpone Johnathan's big birthday bash until his actual birthday. So, 18 hours after flying in on a red-eye from the Cook Islands, 12 two-year olds, their mommies and their baby brothers and sisters descended on our backyard barn
I had had big plans to make cute pig cupcakes for the kids and chicken biscuits for the mommies. All that got scrapped for a bakery cake and bagels when we postponed the party. We decorated the backyard with animals cutouts that Granna made. Entrusted toddlers with paint pens and markers to decorate a cardboard barn. Threw cow and pig footballs into the basketball hoop and played a beanbag toss game. And shared the sand table. Two hours later, we collapsed on the couch.
The highlights of our 2-year-old
Absolutely everything is: "Why" - An acceptable answer was "because" but now when I ask him why he did something, he answers me with "because". We're back to real answers.
Favorite new phrases: No problem, Yee-haw
Singing: Happy Birthday is a favorite and loves to learn new songs.
Counting: Can almost count to 10 (though we throw in a few extra 7s)
Obsessed with matchbox cars and will often put them in his buckets and put them to bed in his room in his blue chair.
Favorite birthday moment: As we're opening cards, one nice aunt had put a $20 bill inside. When Johnathan opened the card he said "oooo money" "go shopping". Really? Aren't we a little young for that?
Boo-boos now must be kissed to feel better. Apparently froggie, the pull-along wooden frog also gets lots of boo-boos on our walks around the block since Johnathan tells me he has to kiss froggie because he bump head.
Everytime someone leaves or its time for a nap we must kiss and hug daddy and then daddy must kiss and hug mommy (I swear I didn't teach him this). If this is not done, chaos ensues.
He is deathly afraid of the doctor and is an extremely fast runner when trying to avoid a nurse.
Backseat driver: It started off with - red sign - stop! Green light - go. But now as I crank the car, he tells me which way I should go.
He's trying to learn pronouns. Carry you means carry me. Help you means help me. Help me means help you. Guess how many times we got that wrong.
